Q. What issue brought you to coaching? A. I was considering coaching to help me overcome moments of over thinking and negative thoughts. Positive Intelligence was a great program! It helped me to create a practice of grounding myself each day and several weeks after the program I’m still using some of the techniques. There were also some powerful visualisations and insights that really helped to reshape my understanding of myself and it provided a language to explain my behaviour in a very self-compassionate way. John was a great facilitator of the program. He led weekly group sessions that helped the cohort to explore how the program had affected us and he regularly provided motivation and encouragement. John really made me change the way I think. Since I was 10 years old I have always focused on what I can’t do rather than what I can. After a few sessions with John I had a eureka moment at the top of a foggy mountain as the voice in my head told me I couldn’t ski down. Then remembered his words – “You are your thoughts” and re-framed my mindset and a few minutes later I made it to the bottom without falling over. Those four simple words are front of mind every day and have genuinely changed my self-perception.
What issue brought you to coaching? Confidence issue that has been holding me back for some time in my professional life. How did the coaching process help you overcome your issue? The coaching process has helped me to understand what is creating / contributing to my confidence issues. I have learnt techniques to help manage situations and to create a more positive mindset. I now understand some of the things that are triggering negative thoughts and how to combat these. Sharing these ‘weaknesses’ with John has also lifted a weight/burden that I had previously been carrying alone. What has changed because of our work together? I have adopted techniques to help me control my negative thoughts. I regularly use these techniques to focus on positivity and successful outcomes. I feel more confident about the challenges that I still face (regularly).
